What is AktivA?
AktivA is a psychosocial training programme developed at TU Dresden to promote health and decision-making skills among unemployed people.
The challenge
It has been proven many times that unemployed people are in poorer health than those in employment. A national survey conducted in 2005 showed that sick leave among unemployed people aged 35 to 59 was at least twice as high as among employed people. Unemployment is considered a very significant risk factor for health.
The benefits
AktivA training helps people to help themselves. Participation in the training leads to a lasting reduction in physical and mental health problems.
This effect has also been confirmed by evaluation studies. Improving your own health also has a positive effect on your employability.
What does it cost?
For you: nothing! The course is financed by the BZgA on behalf of and with funds from the statutory health insurance funds.
How does the training work?
Topic 1: Organising your day – being active– on the web for a holistic activity plan. We will help you on your way!
- Adapt the activities you have planned to your current life situation!
- Have the courage to break out of routines!
- Plan activities in advance as precisely as possible, avoid backing out and making excuses!
- Break down complex activities into smaller steps!
- Set realistic goals that are not too ambitious!
- Make an agreement with yourself to actually stick to your plan!
- Observe yourself and keep a record of which activities you have done and which you have not!
- Reward yourself when you achieve your goals!
- Include balancing relaxation phases!
- Evaluate what you have achieved and adjust your plan if necessary!
Topic 2: My thoughts – thought patterns and endless spirals of thoughts – this does not have to be the case. We support you in formulating and implementing constructive thoughts.
There is a direct and causal connection between the external situation and one’s own feelings.
However, it is not the current situation that determines our emotional and behavioural response (C), but the mental evaluation system that mediates between the two!
Topic 3: Appearing confident – confident, insecure and aggressive are expressions of behaviour. You can learn how these arise and how to deal with them confidently in our AktivA course.
- Do not be afraid to express your need for social support.
- Give feedback to others, i.e. express your gratitude or, if necessary, your displeasure.
- Respect it if someone is (currently) unable to help you.
- Offer help if necessary.
Topic 4: From challenge (problem) to solution. We work with you to develop the ability to solve problems systematically.
This includes the following insights:
- the realisation that problem situations are a normal part of life
- the assumption that such situations can be actively mastered
- the willingness to recognise problem situations as they arise, and
- the determination to resist the temptation to act impulsively.
